My dear Fiddes,

I am very much obliged to you for your letter of the

C. 14th June and for all the trouble you have been so good as to

take with regard to the position of our Eastern Staff.

I am very happy to be able to tell you that since I saw you I have been meeting with more success in engaging wounded officers for temporary employment during the war and a

year after. I have already got six in course of office training, and now that we have made a start I hope that we may have suffi- cient numbers coming in to provide substitutes for the able-bodied men who are straining at the leash to get home to join the Colours.

It may be of interest to you to see, in the enclosed memorandum, the terme on which the officers are being engaged for service in the Far East.
